Andy is a Founding Partner of HVC. He has built and exited four VC-backed startups in the B2B SaaS, Medical Device, Cyber Security, and Wireless Broadband sectors. Each of these ventures required innovative ideas, strategic planning, and robust leadership to navigate the complex landscape of these industries. The success of these startups not only highlights Andy's ability to drive growth but also showcases his versatility in handling diverse sectors. This track record of successful entrepreneurship has established Andy as a seasoned expert capable of translating a vision into reality, thereby earning the trust and confidence of investors.
As the Founding CEO of the Arizona Venture Development Corporation (AVC), Andy led the implementation of the US Treasury's State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), a $10 billion federal program. Andy successfully allocated capital as a fund-of-funds and direct VC investor in a portfolio of two funds and 16 tech companies. AVC is the first ever state sponsored Venture Capital Fund in Arizona, catalyzing over $300 million of new venture capital dollars in the state. This accomplishment underscores his capability to manage large-scale initiatives that have far-reaching impacts on the economy, particularly vital as it provides much-needed capital, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation across the country. Andy's leading role in this initiative demonstrates his commitment to economic development and his proficiency in working within the frameworks of significant federal programs.
Before transitioning to venture capital, Andy spent 14 notable years at Motorola, where he led Motorola Asia and subsequently became an investor at Motorola Ventures, managing over $750 million. This experience gave him deep insights into the operational and strategic aspects of running large divisions and making impactful investment decisions.
Andy is co-founder of the Arizona Innovation Challenge and founder of the Venture Ready Accelerator, which now boasts 140 tech startups valued at over $5 billion, with an inferred MOIC (return multiple) of greater than 10X.
Through his current roles on the invisionAZ Board, the Technology Advisor Board of Tech Launch Arizona, and the WearTech Applied Research Center Board and previous board positions with PHXVentures, AZ-VC, and Pangaea Ventures, Andy continues to influence and shape the landscape of technology and innovation, driving future growth and development in these critical areas. These qualifications establish him as an expert in evaluating the extraordinary abilities of professionals in various innovative fields, including life sciences and healthcare entrepreneurship.
